Could adoption be right for me?
Choosing an adoption plan for your unexpected pregnancy can turn a negative and frightening situation into a positive one. While a difficult decision to make, it is also a very selfless and loving one. Adoption might be right for you for any of the following reasons:
- You feel you are too young to parent
- You don’t have the financial or emotional support to raise a child
- You don’t want to be a parent, but don’t want to have an abortion
- You are still in school or other circumstances
If I choose adoption, what would I be in control of?
As the birth mother, you’d have influence on the adoption plan. You can be involved in your child’s life by receiving updates and being allowed to visit, or you can choose not to. You would be part of the process of selecting the adoptive family for your child; many adoption agencies have a selection of families that have been approved for adoption that you can choose from – many of them have been waiting for a long time for a child, especially as a way to broaden your choices.
How do I know my child will be taken care of?
Families that are approved for adoption go through an intense screening process. They’re required to meet a set of standards to ensure they can take good care of their adopted child. Adoptive families are also regularly checked on by a caseworker.
How do I know if this is the right decision for me?
