What is Prenatal Care?

Prenatal care is the process of regular checkups with the care of a license medical professionals: physician, nurse practitioner, and nurses throughout your pregnancy to ensure the health of both you and your growing child. These checkups, among others, include a physical exam, weight checks, vital signs, listening to the baby’s heartbeat, and in-house lab work. Depending on the stage of your pregnancy, there may be some additional tests that the doctor will discuss with you when you arrive for your appointment.

Why does it matter?

Prenatal care is an important step in preventing potential complications during your pregnancy. During your appointments, you’ll be given information on proper diet, exercise, and how to control preexisting conditions, if any apply. The doctor will also instruct you on medications you can and cannot take during pregnancy. At the end of your appointments, you’ll be able to get answers to any questions you may have.

How does it work?

If you’re interested in our prenatal program, fill out our contact form and a member of our team will get back to you to schedule an exact time and date. Your first prenatal care appointment is usually the longest, so block out plenty of time for it. This is to ensure you have a thorough checkup, as well as enough time to have your questions answered.

Options for Women East is proud to offer full prenatal services to women who are unexpectedly pregnant at no-cost. We’re here to serve you throughout your pregnancy and beyond so that you have the resources you need for a healthy pregnancy, healthy mother, and a healthy baby.

*Because of the scope of our services, Options for Women East neither refers for or perform abortions, nor refers for or prescribes the pill. What is most important for us is to be there for you in that moment where we can provide you more information for whatever steps you are considering. The best way to do this is never alone, but in an environment that is safe and compassionate, a space to process and listen, and with free consultation on any medical questions answered by competent and licensed medical professionals. We thank you for your understanding!
